Our Christian School Values

Growing together in love and learning:

Special Educational Needs

At Sessay CE Primary School we aim to respond sensitively, quickly and appropriately to any pupils who may need special educational provision and all children are valued equally. The school aims to cater for all children within the classroom, including those who may require additional support.

"Pupils who are disabled and those with special educational needs are very effectively supported. A rigorous analysis of each pupil’s needs ensures interventions are appropriate and well planned, enabling them to make good progress"~Ofsted, October 2012

Children are deemed to have special educational needs if they:

  •  have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of their age - and/or
  •  have a disability which either prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities which are generally provided in schools for children of their age.

Support may take the form of individual or group tuition and may be provided from within school or from outside agencies. Time is often allocated on the recommendations of the school Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), Class Teacher, Special Education Advisory Service, Educational Psychologist, or Speech Therapist.

The school has adopted the most recent Code of Practice in relation to children with special needs, which recognises the special needs of children and young people from 0 - 25 years.

We value the importance of good communication between parents/carers and school and as such parents/carers are consulted at all times through informal discussions with the class teacher through our open door policy and more formal regular review meetings every term.  North Yorkshire PACT is a voluntary organisation run by parents/carers that supports children with additional needs. Please read the Local Authority and School SEN Information Report (reviewed January 2017) and also the Provision Map which outlines SEN provision at Sessay CE Primary School.  This information helps to explain how we meet the needs of all children in school.

We have also created a frequently asked questions page which outlines what Sessay School can offer your child. For issues relating to behaviour and Special Educational Needs please refer to our Behaviour Policy
