Welcome back to Summer Term

Our Topic is Land and Sea.

We will look at the worlds oceans and seas, continents and the famous local explorer Captain Cook.

In Maths we will work on mastering 'Place Value' then onto 'Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division'.

In Literacy we will start by looking at 'Traditional Tales' and writing our own stories.

In science we will explore Plants, we will look at the parts of a plant and plant seeds.

In RE we will look at 'Religious Buildings' from different religions.

Homework

Reception children will bring their Learning Journeys home on a Friday – please add photographs and any drawings the children do over the weekend ready for them to talk about on a Monday morning. Sounds and reading books are now starting to come please check your child's bag each day.

Yr1 – In addition to reading at home, the children will receive weekly spellings to learn each Friday which will be tested the following Friday. They will also (when they are ready) get a book review to complete after each story book.

All children in Reception will be read with 1-1 twice per week and Yr 1 once per week; they will also do guided reading in Yr 1, some Reception have now started this too, others will follow later in the year. Children will all have their books changed twice per week if they have been read with at home and a book review has been completed (Yr1). Please write in your child’s comment book so we know if you have read or not. We will be expecting Yr1 to be more independent and get their reading folders out on a Friday and change their book themselves.

From time to time handwriting practice sheets and mental arithmetic questions may be also sent home.

During this term we ask you to not come into the classroom on a morning; your children need to do their jobs independently now and we will be awarding merits to help promote independence. However, if you wish to chat to us about anything at any time please feel free to come in and see us.
